How Does the Sun Make Weather?

Does weather really start with the sun? Yes. The sun is where weather starts. Emerging readers will delight in learning this, along with the answers to many questions. How do we measure temperature? How strong are the sun's rays? Why is the weather warmer in the summer? This fact-filled, full color book is ideal for early readers or read-aloud, and also supports the National Science Education Standards for K–4 science.

* Reviews *

Good, simple introductions to weather concepts and terms, logically organized. The material is presented in easy, one- or two-sentence chunks of information. The first title covers water vapor, the water cycle, various facts about the sun, and more. Raining discusses clouds, water vapor, the physical appearance of raindrops, etc. Each book has a simple experiment. Pleasing graphic elements include color photos and illustrations and bright borders. These books would be good additions to support classroom units on weather. Pairing them with Judi Barretts Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (S&S, 1978) makes for a lively discussion among groups of first graders about fiction versus nonfiction books related to the weather., School Library Journal July 2005
