Fun and Simple New England State Crafts

In this craft book, part of the Fun and Simple State Crafts series, students learn about the New England region of states while making a variety of crafts. The book begins with a colored map highlighting the region, and a short introduction giving a little information about the history and physical characteristics of New England. The states are in geographical order, starting with Maine and moving south to Connecticut. There are two crafts per state, plus a two-page table listing basic state facts—capital, size, bird, motto, etc. Included in this section is a small image of the state flag. The two-page spread for each craft includes a text box with items needed, a short background note about the subject of the craft, a few color photographs of the craft in various stages, and numbered instructions. The crafts are a bit quirky in nature, ranging from a Stonehenge Calendar (New Hampshire) to a construction paper figure of Champ, the Lake Monster (Vermont). The crafts are fairly simple and use common materials. Unfortunately, the vague instructions will make it difficult for students to construct these crafts without adult assistance., Children's Literature
