From the Math Word Problems Solved series is this book about how to solve pre-algebraic problems. The theme of the word problems is rides and activities at an amusement park. There are examples to show how to look for clue words that help to determine the type of operation required (i.e. add, subtract, multiple, divide). For each word problem, students read through the process of four basic steps of solving the problem; the steps are explained with each word problem. Questions and answers within each step act as guides through the process. With some of the word problems, alternative ways to arrive at the solution are described. Although there are color illustrations, the pictures provide little support in solving the math problems. Some students may need support in using this how-to type of informational text and its features. For additional resources, there is a list of a few books and websites. From the publishers website, you may download worksheets with more word problems to try., Children's Literature
