Antoine Lavoisier

Antoine Lavoisier used experiments and careful measurements to create a system to help chemists understand how matter behaved. His experiments on combustion showed that oxygen played a key part in the burning process. Lavoisier shared his ideas with many of the other great scientists of his day, including Benjamin Franklin. For his many accomplishments, Antoine Lavoisier is remembered today as the founder of modern chemistry and one of the great minds of science.
