The books in the Amazing Animal Defenses series would be a good addition to the library of any teacher with special needs students because they present important concepts in a format that will appeal to reluctant readers and special needs students. The books are graphically interesting, and the material is presented in small, easy-to-digest sections.Each volume is about 50 pages in length, illustrated in color with large, clear, and easy-to-read print. The material will be of high interest to high school students and provides a good starting point for students who are building vocabulary and learning the biology of adaptation and the relationship between structure and function. Each book includes a glossary and an index. When difficult words are introduced, they often include a pronunciation guide. Additional books to read and websites to visit are also included, but there is no glossary.In Animal Body Part Regenerators, the animals discussed include salamanders, starfish, crayfish, and earthworms; classification is also covered. The book takes the time to explain how studying these animals is beneficial to humans as well.
