Vickers has written an excellent sourcebook for teens interested in science fairs. She not only includes numerous modern examples of science fair winners, she carefully outlines both the basics and the more advanced topics of research. The mathematical and statistical principles behind concepts such as average, mean, and mode are carefully explained. There are entire chapters dedicated to discovering an interesting topic, the proper way to keep a project notebook, how to approach a mentor, and how to sell the science using a poster and a good presentation. Although this book is aimed at students preparing for a science fair, it really should be mandatory reading for students in any science class that demands a report.
