Cancer is a scary topic for everyone. This informative book helps readers understand more about the disease and what people go through that have the disease. With truth in the title, readers would grab this book as an authoritative resource on the subject, and they will not be disappointed. The book starts with the story of Mary Lumapas and her fight with kidney cancer as a successful way to draw the reader in and have them consider cancer from the prospective of someone close to their age. There is an early chapter on Cancer in History, but most teens that are using the book to inform them on what they can do now may choose to skip this chapter and head to the meaty sections on treating cancer, which includes honest facts about radiation, surgery, and clinical trials, and how to take care of yourself and others if you have cancer. The chapter on risk factors, such as smoking, sun exposure, and high-fat diets, should be eye-opening for this age group as well.
