Thanksgiving Day: A Time to Be Thankful

Turkey...Stuffing...Cranberries...Pumpkin Pie. All of these foods make us think of Thanksgiving. It is a special day for many reasons. Thanksgiving started as a harvest festival between the Pilgrims and the American Indians. Today, it is also about being grateful for all that we have and for those that we love.

These two titles in the new Finding Out about Holidays series offer sufficient information to support middle-grade reports. Thanksgiving includes plenty of interesting facts (for example, the amount of food consumed annually on the special day and harvest festivals throughout history), along with a retelling of what went on during the famous day in 1620 that started it all. Chinese New Year delves into the symbolism behind the holidays traditions, while providing insight into the larger Chinese culture and describing Chinese American celebrations across the country. Both titles will hook readers with straightforward, engaging language, color photos on each page, and plenty of specific details. Glossary and brief listings of additional resources are appended.
